bunny love

as i lay on the couch nursing a nasty self induced hangover (are they ever anything but?)
i watch the rain falling steadily onto the greenest green palette of trees outside the big plate glass window,i hear the comforting sounds of my teenage son washing and slicing potatoes in the kitchen (comfort food, bribe) and somehow muster up the energy  
left in my remaining two brain cells to ponder this deep thought: "Why are bunnies so motherfucking cute?" 
my grand-bunny hops and flits on the fireplace like a disney movie character, big brown eyes framed by the dark black fringe of ridiculously long eyelashes, unblinking, ears perked up as he listens for noises twenty miles away. he stops suddenly and sits back on his haunches, posed like a garden gnome, and gently pulls down one of his snowy white ears with his tiny white paws and sticks out his miniature pink tongue to clean it.
oh. my. god. 
there is nothing cuter i fear.
he is the epitome of what he is and should be.
the only question i pose is: why?

i get the big ears and giant feet in the big picture where he is prey to practically every other living creature in the forest, but do other creatures get that too? 
say a hungry eagle swoops down and captures lil bun in a moment of distraction or ear cleaning, might mr. eagle think for one split second before he rips open his jugular, "damn this thing's cute...i know my kids are hungry and all but maybe they'd settle for some...frog's legs tonight?"
kinda think not.
so if nature is perfect and all knowing unless/until we humans mess it up...why?
